Using net/pop in Ruby with ssl.

If you follow this blog post by Chris Roos for connecting to Gmail’s pop server with Ruby and encounter an error similar to this one: NoMethodError: undefined method `set_params’ for #<OpenSSL::SSL::SSLContext:0×50fc58>

Here’s the fix: You need an older version of Ruby 1.9’s net/pop library. I found that the latest one working was revision 13778. view it here.

Hope this saves some time for a few people.

2 years What’s Cookin’?

Last Saturday we had our 2 year anniversary party with 1200 Warriors: Junior and Choco, 2 super friendly New Yorkers who never played in Europe before. Man, they sure know how to entertain a room full party people!

Our camera friend made a nice babbelbox movie which summarizes what people think about What’s Cookin’ :-)

I had a really really great time. Normally I have a lot of work during my own parties, but this time we found enough people to work for us.

Clair, Daphne, Anne and Rebecca from erasmus in Lisbon were here too, that made it even more special!
Thanks guys!

And thanks to everybody who was there to party!

Quote from Junior & Choco after the Party:

We wish we were still there !!!!!! Thanks for bringing us out and having a blast
Much love to everyone in Ghent
See you soon

What’s Cookin’ movie

Time to breath new life in this blog :-)

Here is a short movie clip from our last What’s Cookin’ party on 1st of February in the Vooruit in Ghent.

The place was packed. Great party. I hope to see more of you guys at our next edition on 3 May!

Back home in Belgium

The adventure is over. I am back home, since 30 January. More than a week has passed since than. I meant to write this sooner, but it’s been quite busy.

So that i will never forget, here is what I did on my last week of erasmus:
mon: (back from Porto) caipirinha + beatrix bar
tue: caipirinha + minimercado
wed: beach (sao pedro) + nood (clair’s dinner) + caipirinha + shotbar
thu: new erasmus party at XannaX (crap) + bedroom
fri: bedroom + didn’t get in on BBC guestlist
sat: met lots of people in Bairro + last time in Lux
sun: chicken curry at the frenchies
mon: non-alcoholic evening at Noo Bai and yellow jazz bar
tue: beach (estoril) + monixken’s brithday dinner + chocolate fondue at Daphne’s + last minimercado

last day in lisboa
sunset at Estoril beach

Quite a week. And lots of fun.

A reminder of the best places (bars) in Lisbon:

  • Noo Bai (miradouro santa catarina) : chill bar with amazing view, gmaps
  • Instituto do vinho do porto: port wine tasting in a chill relaxing bar
  • Vou ao Camoes: aka “the caipirinha shop”, sells caipirinha’s for 2Eur
  • Maria Caxuxa: nice bar in Bairro
  • Bar sem nom: aka “the shot bar”, 12 shots for 12 euro’s, always good music
  • Yellow jazz bar: great tosta’s and good music
  • Bedroom: mini club in Bairro. Nice interior and good sound. Some times good house dj
  • Lux: the big club of the city. I am a big fan of the downstairs floor (mostly techno)

I discovered all of this, with these guys

See you tonight at What’s Cookin’?

Tonight it’s time to party again in Belgium! (Yup, I am back from my erasmus in Lisbon) My close friends Jack & Bugsy have been working hard to bring this edition of What’s Cookin’? to the Vooruit in Ghent.

We announced the lineup just a couple of minutes ago. There is a special menu for dinner this evening at Don Veggie’s, so you can eat there before the party (it’s 5min walking from the venue!)

Ticket pre-sales are on fire, so don’t be late.
The event page has a link to google maps.

Hope to see you all tonight!
